Join professional urban sketcher Ian Fennelly as he guides you through techniques that will help you create vibrant, atmospheric sketches. Learn how to develop your personal style and fill your sketchbook step by step. Inspired by the unique character of this historic city, you'll be able to capture your favorite travel memories with brush and pen.
Welcome to Delft, a true gem in the Netherlands, world-renowned for its blue ceramics, rich artistic heritage, and beautifully preserved old town. With its quiet canals, gabled houses, lively market squares, iconic churches, and bike-friendly charm, Delft feels like a living sketchbook. This peaceful and inspiring city offers the perfect setting for urban sketching – combining Dutch elegance with everyday vibrancy.
Ian will teach you about sketch composition, perspective, and how to train your eye to focus on the essential elements of a scene. You'll gain confidence in simplifying complex visuals and translating them into expressive sketches. Through multiple drawing sessions, you'll explore the city and improve your skills in drawing, watercolour, and visual storytelling – all while having fun in a supportive atmosphere.

All teaching sessions and demonstrations will take place in town, mostly pleinair. Ian will select the most inspiring scenes and locations, ensuring that every level of experience feels supported and challenged. Each session will be enriched by stories, demonstrations, and step-by-step guidance to keep the learning process engaging and enjoyable.
Target Group: This course is suitable for all levels, from motivated beginners to advanced sketchers.
Where do we sketch/draw? We will sketch mainly en plein air, so please be comfortable walking moderate distances. A seminar room is available for indoor work or rainy days.
How to get to Delft?
By Train:
Delft is easily accessible by train, with direct connections from Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and The Hague. The train station is just a 10-minute walk from the city center.
By Plane:
The nearest airport is Rotterdam The Hague Airport (approx. 12 km away). Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is also convenient (approx. 45 minutes by train).
By Car:
Delft is well connected by motorway and has multiple public parking options outside the historic center.
The Person
Ian Fennelly has always been fascinated by the urban environment, he loves the atmosphere of a busy city. He paints pretty quickly and nonchalantly, but the painting process as a whole has to take place in a very precise context – like a frame that holds the picture. The artist gathers inspiration for his works by visiting many places and spending time there, meeting new people and letting the surroundings affect him.

Die Anreise ist Sonntag, 20.09 und die Abreise Samstag, 26.09.

Die Mindestteilnehmerzahl für diesen Kurs beträgt: 8 Personen. Sie muss bis 2 Wochen vor Kursstart erreicht sein.
Die Maximalteilnehmerzahl für diesen Kurs liegt bei 12 Personen.

Nur in der Rechnung aufgeführte Leistungen sind inklusive. Es können vor Ort ggfs. Kurtaxe, Parkplatz Gebühren anfallen. Wir bieten unsere Reisen ohne Transferleistungen an.
Wenn Sie mit der Bahn oder den öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln anreisen oder wenn Ihre Mobilität aus anderen Gründen eingeschränkt ist, sprechen Sie uns bitte bei der Buchung darauf an. Wir klären dann mit Ihnen, ob Kurs-Konzept und Hotelzimmer bzw Atelierräume für Sie geeignet sind.
So gibt es beispielsweise einige Kurse, die gute Mobilität zu Fuß oder mit einem Fahrrad erfordern.
Für Exkursionen können vor Ort Fahrgemeinschaften gebildet werden.
