Mark Hamblin
Mark Hamblin has been working as a freelance nature photographer since 1995. He was brought up in Warwickshire, where he developed an early interest in birdwatching and photography, winning the Young Ornithologist Club's photograph of the year in 1980! He later moved to Sheffield to study Microbiology, where he lived for 18 years, before heading north to his current home in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, in 2002.
Mark is a regular contributor to many of Britain's leading wildlife and photographic magazines, with over 100 published articles. His images are represented by a number of international photographic agencies including, Getty Images, Nature Picture Library, Nature in Stock and RSPB Images and his work is regularly used worldwide in magazines, books and calendars.
Mark's work has been recognised in several leading photographic competitions, including seven highly commended images in the prestigious BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition.
Mark's first book, Wild Peak was published in 2003 and was followed by Wild Land - Images of nature from the Cairngorms, in 2005, in collaboration with Peter Cairns. This was followed by the highly acclaimed book Tooth & Claw - living alongside Britain's predators (2007), which reveals our complex relationship with predators. Mark was also a contributing photographer to Wild Wonders of Europe project working on stories in Lithuania and The Netherlands.
More recently he has teamed up with other conservation-minded photographers to form the Wild Media Foundation of which he is a director. This social enterprise aims to raise awareness about environmental issues through the use of innovative imagery and thought-provoking stories. Their latest project 2020VISION, aims to engage and enthuse the British public about the value of restoring our natural habitats. The 2020VISION book was published in 2012 and has been followed by a series of theatre shows and exhibitions around the UK.
Mark has traveled to many parts of the world both on self-assignments and as a tour leader for specialist photo-tour companies. He also offers personal guiding around Scotland for both willdife and landscape subjects.
