Christopher Hughes

After leaving Swansea University, I joined the famous Royal Worcester Porcelain Company as a ceramic artist. After the apprenticeship, I painted their most prestigious vases and plaques, specializing in highland cattle, game birds and still life. Signed C.Hughes Royal Worcester pieces are found all over the world and often appear on television antique and collectors programmes.
A freelance career beckoned and in 1980 I took the leap!
Since then....which seems an awful long time ago....I have painted ceramics, watercolours and oils. I have sold, worldwide, all different work, from birds of prey to the Middle East, cattle to the USA, exotic birds to China, still life to Australia, seascapes to Italy, and English landscapes to South Africa!!
I genuinely love what I do, embracing new subjects and styles as challenges .I have taught watercolour painting throughout my freelance career. I enjoy passing on what I have learned to complete beginners and competent painters. Analysing and then verbalizing techniques, actually has made me a better painter...you never stop learning and as I tell my students "you are only as good as your next picture" !!
As you will see from my work there are two distinct themes ...English and Greek.
My traditional English watercolours, oils and porcelain, contrast with my work inspired by my Greek Island home.
We are lucky enough to spend the summer months in the house we designed, on the amazing Greek island of Alonissos.
I first taught watercolour painting there in 1985. We had Carob Tree House built in an ancient olive grove, overlooking the Aegean in 2005. I hold watercolour workshops and paint the fantastic scenery during the summer months. In the Autumn we return to our new UK home in Holly Green ,Worcestershire. Here I paint the glorious countryside around the nearby Malvern Hills, as well as holding regular watercolour classes.
Yes I am a lucky man....all this plus a beautiful wife of over forty years and two amazing children.
