Learn how to paint with water-mixable oils on this inspiring holiday. Many of the lessons learnt would apply to other mediums and you will leave with a fantastic grounding in observation with techniques to assist in the development of your painting skills.

Itineray

Arrival Day:

You can check in to your room from 2.30pm onwards (better and best rooms from 1pm). Please join us for afternoon tea. All guests are invited – we’ll introduce your leader and welcome you to your holiday. 

Day 2:

Today we will learn about the medium and the techniques used in painting in the wonderful medium that is water-mixable oils with tutor demonstrations and one to one tuition. We will look at the ways of using the medium and the many advantages of working in oils.

Day 3:

Today we will look at colour mixing, the use of different mixing mediums and how to get the best results from application. We will also look at how to create a good composition.

Day 4:

Today we will visit Tallybont on Usk to paint canal-side scenery or the bridge, reflections and trees, putting what we have learned to great use. Perhaps before dinner we could mount a small exhibition of our efforts if you would like to participate. 

Departure day

Depart after a leisurely breakfast.

What to bring

  • An A5 or an A4 sketchpad
  • Pencils for sketching
  • An eraser
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Water-mixable oils
  • A small selection of hog bristle brushes
  • Palette
  • Small bottle and container for a little water
  • Canvas boards or stretched canvases of your choice.
  • A tube of raw sienna acrylic paint (or any of the earth colours)
  • Little plastic pot to create mixes
  • Rucksack
