Enjoy the feeling of plein air drawing in Liguria with our experienced tutor Brigitte Guhle. We will mainly focus on portraiture and figurative drawing in different techniques.
The main emphasis of this drawing course will be portraiture of locals. At the beginning Brigitte Guhle will give you a short introduction at the hotel. Then we will start to explore the region and will search our models in the streets or on the beach. Landscape motives can be captured with pencil, brush or with your camera.
Starting at Santa Margherita we will do some lovely boat trips to Portofino and San Fruttuoso. Further, we will visit Camogli. By train we will arrive at Cinque Terre – from there on we will walk from Corniglia to Vernazza. The other places Manarola, Rio Maggiore or Monterosso al Mare can be visited during your free day. During your stay dinner will be served at different trattorias. You will find typically Ligurian specials as Trofie con Pesto, crispy bunny with olives, Focaccia al formaggio or the famous Farinata (a pancake made of ceci bean flour). When it comes to drinks you should not miss the Vermentino - the reginoal white wine is the highlight of Liguria. In the various pubs on the beach you can also enjoy a delicious variety of fish dishes.
Target group: This course is meant to be for beginners as well as for advanced learners.
Where do we paint/sketch/draw? We will draw and sketch mainly outside during our various excursions. Nevertheless, if the weather is bad be usually have access to the relaxing reading area inside the hotel, where we can draw and sketch, too.
Liguria:
The beautiful area is located in North West Italy between France and Tuscany. Particularly, the little towns and villages among the Riviera di Levante coastline - in the South of Genua - are very famous and popular. It nearly seems as if the various houses of Cinque Terre and Portofino are clamping on the rocks which stick partly out of the sea. You can also find steep rocks and sandy beaches at the Riviera di Ponente. Further, there are lots of plants and palm trees. This is why it is also called Riviera of palms. The coastline in the West of Genua has become popular through its flowers and plants.
There are huge natural reserve areas in the mountains characterised by beech forests and marine reserves to prevent the natural beauty of this region. These natural reserves combined with the traditional cultivation areas of the famous Ligurian olive oil, Ligurian wine, chestnuts, pines and fruits form the picturesque landscape of Liguria. Moreover, the Ligurian kitchen is not for nothing popular for its fish- and pasta dishes - e.g. pesto alle genovese. Most of it smells of thyme that grows nearly everywhere in the mediterranean macchia.
How to get there?
The biggest air port in Liguria is 'Aeroporto di Genova-Sestri Cristoforo Colombo'. It is located at Sestri Ponente near Genua.
Accommodation:
Hotel Tigullio et de Milan is a three star hotel located in the heart of Santa Margherita. It just needs a short busride or boat trip to Portfofino. The bus station and the harbour are situated nearby within a 5-minutes walking distance. You will discover the wonderful region of Cinque Terre by boat. Back at the hotel you can relax and lie back in the TV-room, in the reading room or on the terrace with its deckchairs and sunshades. The reception at the hotel offers a 24h-service, so that you can rent e.g. bicycles or ask for more information about the region. Drinks & snacks can be purchased around the clock at the classy hotel bar. The rooms offer modern comfort including Wifi, Sat-TV and air conditioning. Lots of the rooms do have their own balconies. The hotel is surrounded by typically Italian restaurants and shops. Guests do have free access to the fitness centre in 50 metres walking distance.
