Capture the Architecture of Umbria in your Italian Landscape

03.10.2019 - 13.10.2019 Umbria | Nancie King Mertz pastel, life, basics, culture, landscape, urban, people, nature, painting, oil, light 3000 USD

Pastelists and oil painters will benefit from this workshop with its focus on correct perspective. While the villages and villas located in one of Italy’s most picturesque regions provide the perfect point of interest in landscape work, the drawing must be right to create successful paintings. This workshop will cover one-point, two-point and atmospheric perspective as it applies to the gorgeous red tile and stone found throughout the area. Far-reaching vistas will be painted as will close-up village culture!

The goal is to help painters capture their image quickly and confidently, en plein air, and to share methods for rapid techniques through demos. All mediums are welcome in this workshop, however Nancie’s go-to for plein air is soft pastel—it’s easy to travel with and results are immediate, so it will be her medium of choice for the demos she offers. Nancie has had many years of experience with oil and watercolor too, so she can help painters if other mediums are their choice!

The extended length of this workshop will provide a great advantage, as you immerse yourselves daily in serious study. Repeated exercises will hone the skills needed to improve your work. Along with daily demos, Nancie’s focus is one-on-one assistance rather than group-lecture. Much of the work will be in the field, yet you’ll have La Romita’s wonderful studio facilities for your use if the group chooses to move indoors. Helpful critiques will be offered on a regular basis.

The opportunity to paint and learn at La Romita is a treasured one. The beauty of the region can provide inspiration-of-a-lifetime.
