5 Days Painting in Shropshire

19.08.2019 - 23.08.2019 Shropshire | Vicki Norman painting, landscape, culture, history 295 GBP

The more I travel, the more I appreciate coming home to lovely Shropshire. The painting possibilities here seem endless, and there are certain times of the year when I find myself very sad to be packing a bag and heading off somewhere else to paint or teach. This is especially true at harvest time, I love watching the industrious gathering of crops and the warm colours changing each day. So this year, I've decided to stay at home, and share some of the secrets of this 'forgotten county' with a group of up to 12 people.

Shropshire's rolling hills, deep river valleys and medieval market towns will be the location for our 5 days of painting on location. Join us at harvest time as we explore one of England's most beautiful and best kept secrets. With it's diverse landscape and wealth of historic buildings, we will base our week around Ludlow and Church Stretton, using the lovely Westhope College as our base.

Accommodation options:

If you're travelling over to the East Coast to join us for this trip, there are plenty of nearby accommodation options to suit every taste and budget.

Whether you prefer a holiday cottage, full board hotel, an Air BnB, or a camp site, there's something for everyone within easy reach of our locations.

Westhope, Shropshire and the beautiful areas all around:

The area: We will be spoilt for choice in this part of Shropshire with so many beautiful towns and villages nearby. We are just a stone's throw from the picturesque Church Stretton with breathtaking views of Cardingmill Valley and the Long Mynd on our doorstep.

The medieval market town of Ludlow is just ten minutes away. Stunning architecture, the castle and river will provide a broad range of subjects for us, and the many cafes, restaurants and pubs will ensure that we are never short of refreshments.

Itinary:

Each day we will gather in a different location. Arrangement for parking and travel will be made in advance so that we can easily meet up and get started in the mornings.

We will select a diverse range of locations to accommodate a breadth of styles and preferences within the group. From wide open landscapes to intimate villages, we will find something different each day, all with the lovely back-drop of Shropshire at harvest time.

Course activities:

We will begin with workshops and demonstrations of the specific techniques and approaches used when painting on location. Each day will focus on a different location and aspect of painting ‘en plein air’. We will study composition choices, the use of colour, brushwork and how to create focal areas in our work.

In case of poor weather we have arranged for the use of the classrooms at Westhope College.

A full list of required equipment will be issued upon receipt of your booking.
