Stone Carving with Simon Keeley

24.07.2019 - 31.07.2019 Umbria | Simon Keeley stone carving, arts & crafts 1100 GBP

Simon Keeley is a Stone Carver who is continuing his family traditional link to stone carving, which was inspired by Lincoln Cathedral. His first training was as a Stone Mason at York college and later working as a Stone Mason for Bowman and Sons in Stamford, Lincolnshire.

He went on to train as a Stone Carver at the London City and Guilds Art School, dealing predominantly with historical/ornamental carving. His deep passion is to carve stone, a vocation that he has chosen; he feels it is linked to a spiritual path, which is gradually revealing the way.

Simon is happy tutoring total beginners and experienced artists, working in stone.

His 7 night week will include 6 days of tutoring beginning with clay work to establish and study the finished carved work, then how to transfer this work onto the the stone. He then teaches carving techniques and inspires you onward.

At the end of the week each student will have a finished carving to around 25 x 25 x 20 sq cm - all their own work. These works will be transported back to England for collection, or if from further afield it can be arranged to have them shipped.

All materials and tools are supplied. A trip to Assisi is included during the week to look at the wonderful St Francis Baslica and the glorious architecture and carving.

The week, as always, will feature everything Arte Umbria has to offer. Good food, wine and camaraderie with a house party atmosphere in the evenings.

Simon is the most inspirational of tutors.
