Following her very successful week with us in 2018 Claudia Tulifero is joining us in 2019 to run a week long workshop in Course Illumination on Parchment using the original techniques from mediaeval and renaissance times.
What this course will offer.
This course intends to teach and present the ancient technique of illumination.
During the course participants will learn how to:
- prepare the parchment
- realise the basic design and transfer it to the parchment
- prepare the “pastiglia” for the gilding relief
- gilding the letter with water gilding on bole with genuine gold leaf
- prepare the “tempera” with pure pigments, precious metal such as lapis lazuli, egg and natural varnish
All the necessary materials, including gold, precious metals, pigments, vellum and brushes will be provided.
It is recommended you bring a Magnifying glass.
There may be an opportunity to learn basic fresco preparation if time permits.
Accommodation
As seen on the BBC, and also as featured in the Sunday Telegraph, our home, Tenuta di Poggiolame, is the venue for our painting, drawing and creative writing courses, which are designed to suit all levels of skill. We are NOT a hotel, it is our private home, and we are just lucky enough to have this wonderful place that we make open to people to come and enjoy learning, be inspired and explore their creative potential. As a guest in our home, this gives a more personal touch to the weeks and usually results in a house party atmosphere. We aim to offer every comfort and have a private chef.
Our home is set in the Umbrian hills, overlooking the Cetona peaks and close to the Tuscany and Lazio borders and nestles in it's own private 220 acre estate.
