Watercolour with Paul Weaver

12.06.2019 - 19.06.2019 Algarve | Paul Weaver watercolor, watercolour, light, painting, drawing 895 GBP

From the narrow cobbled streets with their rustic buildings and cafes to the bustling markets, gardens and waterfront moorings, this course will focus on sketching and painting on location and capturing a sense of light, mood and atmosphere in your work. An award-winning artist and encouraging tutor, Paul teaches a painting strategy based on the key principles of sound drawing, good design and composition, creative control of the watercolour basics and expressive brushwork. He will guide you through his techniques for working with watercolour and getting the best from an onsite painting, as well as making effective sketches in pencil or line and wash to use as a reference back in the studio.

Accommodation:

Accommodation is included, which means you’ll be staying either in the School House or the Pool House. These are both beautiful buildings, painstakingly renovated by our team, and offering spacious en-suite double, twin and single rooms. Both houses have lovely indoor lounges and eating areas, an outdoor swimming pool, and plenty of terraces and courtyards where you can soak up the sun.

The houses are linked by a courtyard, so for the majority of our courses, they function as a single house, keeping everything in one central site.

The School House

The School House is a spacious townhouse, and is also home to our art school. We’ve renovated the building with an eye for space, light and calm, resulting in a homely, welcoming atmosphere that’s often commented on by tutors and students.

Our large courtyard is perfect for al fresco dining, reading and painting, and there are three other terraces and courtyards, including the roof terrace, where you can swim in our pool, sunbathe or just take in the beautiful sunset views across the town.

Indoors, we’ve created a large sitting room next to a fully-equipped kitchen, and there is an accessible double bedroom with en-suite shower on the ground floor too.

Upstairs in the main house are two double bedrooms and a twin room, all with en-suite bathrooms, and across the terrace, above our art studio are two quiet bedrooms - a twin and a double - with en-suite facilities. On the top floor, you’ll find two more en-suite twin bedrooms. The School House sleeps 8-16 people comfortably.

Your rooms are cleaned daily, and we provide bath and swimming towels and premium botanical shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. There’s a supermarket a short walk from the house, so that you can buy anything else you need, and the sea-front with its shops and cafes are also just a short walk away.

The Pool House

Set on a quiet street just five minutes from the sea front and a short walk from our art school, the Pool House is rumoured to have been owned by the owner of Olhão’s first bank some 150 years ago. Beautifully restored, this deceptively large house is a typical example of Portuguese architecture - a really enchanting house with beautiful courtyards and its own swimming pool.

Smaller than The School House, we can sleep up to 8 people here, in spacious en-suite double rooms - three on the first floor and one at the top of the house.

There is plenty of space inside and out to eat, relax, swim or sketch, including a large sitting room, a lovely garden and two terraces.

Hairdryers are available in each bathroom, along with premium botanical shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. Both bath and swimming towels are provided The Pool House is fully equipped with BBQ, tables and chairs, sun loungers, a fully fitted kitchen, a washing machine and dishwasher.
