This is a town based holiday and so painting and sketching will take place in the town. On one day guests will be taken to Lake Tresimeno to paint by the lake. There will be an excursion to Montepulciano which is well known for its wine. There will be a tour of Montepulciano and the underground wine cellars. Guests have access to the many bars and restaurants in the town and so lunch is not included this week apart from lunch by the lake on one day. Evening meals will be taken together in different restaurants in the town.
We have chosen this specific week in Cortona so that guests can experience the annual festival "Archidado Joust". The Archidado Joust traces its origins back to the Middle Ages and was officially created in 1397 to celebrate the wedding of Francesco Casali, the Lord of Cortona, and Antonia Salimbeni, a noble woman from Siena. In the city of Cortona, this historical event is recalled every year on the second Sunday of June, when people are lead back to the ancient medieval splendor of the city. The streets are decorated in medieval style, ladies, knights, flag flyers, crossbow shooters, soldiers, pages, civil and religious authorities, all dressed with fine costumes, liven up the city center.
