Paddling and Painting - Beautiful Isles of Scilly

28.06.2019 - 03.07.2019 Isles of Scilly | Claudia Myatt painting, sketching, landscape, nature, history , culture, excursion, mixed media 1137 GBP

Uplifting, creative days exploring peaceful islands with a sketchbook. If you haven’t been to the Scilly Isles before you are in for a real treat. Paddle in clear azure water and go barefoot along white sandy beaches, free your mind in this unspoilt natural environment and engage deeply with your surroundings.

Located 28 miles from the Cornish Coast the Isles of Scilly are an archipelago of 5 inhabited Islands and around 140 rocky islets.  Tutor Claudia knows and loves the Scilly Isles, having sailed and painted there many times.  Our base for this Art Safari is The Karma St Martin’s Hotel with panoramic views of Teal Sound.  Our rooms have ocean views and we are a stone’s throw from the beach, perfect for a pre-breakfast leg stretch and a bit of beachcombing if you’re an early riser!

Island days with Claudia will settle into the rhythm of the ebb and flow of the tide.  With watercolours, pens and pencils we take excursions by boat to neighbouring islands and rocky islets, sketching the stunning scenery and wildlife, gathering information for paintings.  Returning to our hotel to relax, watch the sunset with a sundowner, to look at our sketches and ideas and savour delicious food.

Vast skies, crytsal clear blue water and colourful sub-tropical gardens will challenge colour mixing skills, Claudia will offer demonstrations and guidance, tackling waves and watery reflections.

On St Martin’s we will visit the vineyard and winery for sketching and wine tasting, and check-out some local art artwork at North Farm Gallery.

This holiday will involve walking, getting on and off boats, negotiating steep stone steps on quaysides and the occasional paddle if we land on beaches.

The journey to the Isles of Scilly from the UK is very straightforward with some beautiful scenery.  You can fly from Exeter, Newquay or Land’s End, or take the ferry ‘Scillonian III’ from Penzance.
