Inspired by Cortona - Plein Air Painting Course

17.10.2018 - 27.10.2018 Tuscany | Katerina Ring plein air, painting, excursion, landscape, sketching, all mediums, acrylics 2890 EUR

Join us in the mesmerizing hilltown of Cortona, said to be founded by Crano, the son of Noah, who was looking for fertile soil (and high ground!) One of the original 12 Etruscan city states, now one of Tuscany’s best preserved villages. You will paint in the gardens of Bramasole, featured in Frances Mayes’ book, Under the Tuscan Sun and visit Le Celle where Saint Francis of Assisi lived and founded a monastery.

Our friend Giovanni will lead you through the important sites of Cortona, as well as its two most important museums, the Etruscan Museum and the Diocesan Museum that houses one of Fra Angelico’s most important paintings, the Annunciation, and the work of Luca Signorelli, one of Michelangelo’s inspirations.
We will join another friend Ivan in his Art Gallery for wine, Tuscan spuntini (snacks) and learn about Cortona’s history of art and crafts (you will notice a number of Katerina’s paintings hanging there).
Excursions include Pienza, famous for its pecorino cheese and stunning landscape; Montepulciano with dramatically steep streets and exquisite wines (and a tasting of its Vino Nobile); Castiglione del Lago, a fortress village on the shores of Lake Trasimeno, where Hannibal and his elephants humbled the Romans.
On non-excursion days at the B&B, you will enjoy demo’s and coaching from Katerina as you create your own artwork.
During the week you will participate in a cooking class featuring typical dishes of the southern Tuscany/northern Umbria area, dinner with our favorite Cortona Chef Paola, and a last night gallery of paintings created during the workshop.
