Kalymnos/Telendos

Telendos is a small Greek island which is maintained by the municipal of the neighboring and bigger island Kalymnos. Both belong to the Dodecanese (meaning „Twelve Islands“), a group of over 150 larger and smaller islands in the Aegean Sea. Best known is probably the largest one, Rohdes. Regarding Telendos, it is particularly distinctive that its shape consists of one single, flat-top, big rock whose steep sides plunge directly into the sea, altogether looking like a flooded mountain. This constitution leaves rare space for settlement and therefore the island only has a very small population and no car traffic. The fauna on Telendos is especially marked by different species of birds, also including rare types.
